Objecting to a proposed zoning change

If others in your neighborhood want to change the local area in a way that you feel will affect you or your property then you have all the right in the world object to what they are doing. When you get the notice of the zoning changes and the variance you should also get all of the information that you need in order to dispute these changes. Just because someone has applied for a zoning change does not mean that they will get approved for the changes especially if you object. Since you are someone who lives in the area your concerns will be taken into consideration.

When you get the notification in the mail it is important that you read the entire
document over very well. Sometimes that first document is incomplete but the second should be very detailed. Perhaps there is some way that you can compromise when it comes to these plans. If there is only one part of the proposal that you really object to you may be able to work with the person proposing the changes to find a way that you could both get what you want. Minor tweaking may be all that is need to make the proposal acceptable to you.

The zoning board will most likely be holding discussions about this proposal and there you will be able to go over all of your concerns. If all goes well the problems could even be dissolved at these meetings. If you are very seriously opposed to this action you will be able to use expert witness statements to prove your case. If what you fear is the lowering of your property value then you might want to consider getting a real estate agent to be your witness, they will be considered to be experts about this matter.

When you are objecting you will need to bring as much information with you in order to prove your point. This could include pictures or statements of others in the neighborhood. You need to speak up if you have an objection.
