California Homes Prices Continue to Appreciate in Value

For the month of September 2006 home prices in the state of California rose 1.8% from a year ago, according to statistics from the California Association of Realtors. This rise is even despite the large drop in the volume of sales.

(PRWEB via PRWeb) October 29, 2006 -- Prospective home buyers beware that waiting for prices to drop may result in you never buying a home in California. The psychology of today's buyer is that if they had a chance to buy when the market was relatively flat and it starts to go up they wait for the little drop to jump back in. The reality is that with prices still increasing as volume has dropped certainly makes a strong case that when volume starts to pick back up prices will began to escalate at a faster pace.

In looking at barometer markets within the state one has to look at the San Diego market, especially the downtown condo market. This area has seen a tremendous amount of appreciation over the past several years and new public improvement have made the area very desirable to live in. Data for the month of September shows prices of downtown San Diego condos have risen 2.8% from September of 2005. This downtown area, including the Gaslamp is really in the mist of a long term public works improvement plan that will continue until at least 2010. While some developers are still building, a lot have gotten out of the market or put their projects on hold. Most new projects are stretching out the two ends of downtown not blocked by water, Little Italy and the East Village. Condo owners in the Marina, Gaslamp, Cortez Hill and Columbia neighborhoods are not only enjoying the tremendous lifestyle and weather patterns along the bay but are seeing their properties value continue to appreciate faster than the state average.
