Natural Household Tips - 6 ways to do your cleaning naturally

Julie Kinnear

In todays world of strong chemicals and unnatural household cleaning products it's worth to take a look at the traditional methods our grandmothers used to use for the same end results. If you do your research, it becomes clear that there isn't really a need to opt for anything else than traditional plants, peppers and oils. Not only they clean well, but your household will smell fresh and great! Below is a short list of quick tips that you might consider the next time you reach for the cloth...

  • Homemade wood furniture cleaner - Try mixing equal parts of Lemon Juice and Olive Oil to create a natural homemade wood furniture cleaner. This mixture cleans well and will leave a pleasant shine on your household wood furniture. Add beeswax for an even better solution.
  • Apples and ugly aluminium pans - Apple peelings have acid inside of them that can be used to clean discolored pans. Fill your pan with water and toss the peelings in. Bring it to boil and simmer for half an hour.
  • Baking soda and Burned food - Try sprinkling some baking soda on the food stain and scrub until it's all gone. The only thing left is to rinse and clean.
  • Potatoes and Mud - If you have muddy pants, rub a cut of potato over the stain before laundering. The starch is a good assistant in breaking the mud off.
  • Odors in containers - Tried everything but just can't get rid of the smell? Put a few teaspoons of powdered dry mustard and fill it with hot water. Leave it soaking overnight and it will smell fresh again. You can also use this technique on cutting boards or other surfaces, just rub some mustard powder against it and leave it to sit.
  • Eucaliptus oil is your friend - Perhaps a product with the widest range of use, eucaliptus oil can be used to clean clothes (add a few drops to the washing machine), as a deodoriser, to remove tar marks on the paint work of vehicles (rub a moistened cloth) or as an overall bathroom cleaner. There are so many uses that it would require a separate article to cover it all.
