Dr Alan Robertson and Dr Katie MacLaren, have been elected as the new deputy chairs of the BMA's Scottish Junior Doctors Committee (SJDC).
(BMA = British Medical Association)
Dr Robertson, Senior House Officer in Cardiology in Glasgow, and Dr MacLaren, Senior House Officer in Medicine in Dundee, will work with chair Dr Graeme Eunson, to represent junior doctors' interests in Scotland. Dr Robertson will lead on working hours and Dr MacLaren will lead on Scottish level negotiations and educational issues.
Commenting on his appointment, Dr Robertson said: "This is an important time for junior doctors in Scotland. The new training programme is causing much change and uncertainty among doctors and working hours are reducing in line with the Working Time Regulations. It is important that junior doctors continue to receive high quality training, education and experience."
Dr MacLaren said: "I am delighted to be elected as deputy chair of SJDC. Junior doctors need to be aware of the changes to their training programme and future careers and we will work hard to ensure this becomes a reality. Over recent years, SJDC has developed strong working relationships with the Scottish Executive Health Department and NHS employers. There is no doubt that the new team will continue to build on these as well as work with the UK junior doctors committee for the benefit of doctors in training across Scotland."
Dr Eunson said: "I look forward to working with Dr Robertson and Dr MacLaren, the new deputy chairs of the committee. The new team is ready for the challenges we will undoubtedly face in the next year and will continue to work hard on behalf of our members."
