The Keith Sherin Global Leaders Scholarship Announced Scholarship Named after General Electric CFO

A scholarship designed to help disadvantaged students attain educational experiences unavailable to them will be named after Keith Sherin, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the General Electric Company, the Council for Opportunity in Education announced today.

This scholarship will be seeded with a $25,000 contribution from the Council as well as some of the proceeds from the Council's Silver Anniversary Banquet, which Mr. Sherin is chairing. The scholarship will provide low-income students with the chance to study abroad or participate in internships far from their homes - opportunities they could not otherwise afford.

"Mr. Sherin truly understands the need for increased educational opportunity for all Americans," said Arnold L. Mitchem, President of the Council for Opportunity in Education. "He understands that our nation's ability to remain competitive in an increasingly competitive and complex world springs from our ability to broadly educate all of our citizens. We are honored to recognize both his vision and commitment, which has spanned more than ten years of dedicated service on the Council."

Mr. Sherin will be honored at the Council's Silver Anniversary banquet Friday evening (Sept. 8th) at the Marriott Marquis in New York City.

Mr. Sherin joined GE after graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 1981 and has been Senior Vice President, Finance, and Chief Financial Officer for General Electric Company since December 1998. He has been actively involved with the Council for over ten years.

The Council for Opportunity in Education is a nonprofit organization, established in 1981, dedicated to expanding educational opportunity throughout the United States. Through its numerous membership services, the Council works in conjunction with colleges, universities, and agencies that host TRIO Programs to specifically help low-income and first-generation students prepare for, enter and complete college.
