How to easily paint a children's mural yourself
Fiona Paterson How can even the most artistically challenged amongst us create a mural to be proud of? Very simply - Paint by numbers! Along with the increase of everything DIY, comes a fabulous array of DIY mural products including an increasing selection of well designed paint by number murals. There are two systems for tracing the image to the wall. The first & the most common is using a paper pattern with a transfer paper backing. You position the pattern on the wall, draw over the lines with a pen transferring the design to the wall. Finally paint in the colors & outline the design. The second option, (my favourite) is using an overhead projector. The designs come on transparent overhead projector film. You project it onto the wall, trace the design & paint. The beauty of this system is that you can enlarge the image to a variety of sizes & play around with the position on the wall before you begin tracing. (I'll let you into a little secret -- Many professional murals artists use overhead projectors to enlarge their images. It's a quick, easy & effective tool. I wouldn't be without mine!). Projectors can be borrowed or hired from Churches, Hire shops, Diy stores & work places. The designs are simple to follow so you need only borrow or hire the projector for a day at most. The final results are very impressive. Not only have you created a fantasy room for your child at a fraction of the cost of a professional muralist, but you will also have the satisfaction of having created something with which you can be proud of.
