Get The Most Out of Your Next Instant 10 Minute Oil Change by Knowing Your Car's Status

Tim LaGanke, Jr.

It is helpful to know when and how often you need these services performed for your car. Here's a list of the most common areas of car maintenance and how to find out if some component of your vehicle needs to be addressed.
When the time comes for your next instant 10 minute oil change, you can get the best service when you know what state your car's in. These days, many instant 10 minute oil change locations offer a plethora of additional services. Being aware of what you need done will benefit both you as well as the instant oil change service crew and will assure you that all extra services you receive are performed in a timely fashion.
Some instant 10 minute oil change services are able to change your tires. This can be a great and convenient service. But you should have some idea of your tires' condition. Most tires should be replaced after 40,000 miles, but with the wide range of vehicles and large selection of tires available nowadays, that number could vary greatly. Be sure to check with your auto dealer or tire dealer and see how long your tires are built to last. Some may require changing earlier, and even if you have a set that are built to last extra long, it's still a good idea to see how they're doing when they get around the 40,000 mile mark, just to be safe. Your tires are some of the most important aspects to giving you a smooth, safe ride, so you can really never check them too often. To effectively check your tires' condition, move your car out to the driveway to start your inspection. It is best to check your tires outdoors, during the day, where lighting is decent. That way you'll be able to see more of the tire and you'll be able to look more closely and thoroughly. A quick way to check tread wear is to grab a penny and stick it in the tire's grooves, with Lincoln's head pointing into the tire. If you can see the top of his head at any point, then that means your tires are sufficiently worn and you should consider a new set.

All four tires should wear evenly. If you notice that tires on one side of your car are smooth and worn while those on the other side are pristine, your car may have axle alignment issues. Likewise, if only a single side of a tire is worn (one half is smooth and the tire's other half isn't), then your car axle may be misaligned, bent or overloaded. If your tire's wear is inconsistent and if your instant 10 minute oil change provider offers tire service, then the employees should be able to recommend the best course of action to take. If there's a strip of wear down the middle of the tire, then you have too much air in them. If there's wear on the inside or the outside, then that means your tires are lacking air. The best and easiest way to make sure your tires are running smoothly is to check the air pressure once a month. Your vehicle's manual should list the recommended pressure level. The pressure rate should also be stamped on the side of the tire as well. If you can't find the pressure amount, 32 pounds per square inch (psi) is a decent level to keep your tires at until you can get a valid reading. The service members at your instant 10 minute oil change spot should also check the tire's pressure. An under or over pressured tire can be dangerous and waste gas. Many drivers forget about their oil filter. It is recommended that you change your car's oil filter with every other oil change. Your instant 10 minute oil change service provider should notice if your oil filter needs changing, and many have filters for sale on-site. Oil filters are inexpensive. Depending on your car, an oil filter can cost between $5-$10. Oil filters help catch damaging contaminants that can affect an engine's performance, so it's important to have a fresh one in good working order.

Your instant 10 minute oil change provider should also be able to replace your air filter. A clean air filter can mean better mileage and overall better engine performance. Generally, a car's air filter only needs changing once a year, unless you live in a dusty climate, travel on a lot of dirt roads or live in an area with copious amounts of air pollution. Again, your instant 10 minute oil change service provider should be able to tell you if you need a new air filter. An additional service your instant oil change service provider should perform is a quick brake fluid check. Over time, brake fluid will attract moisture, which may cause rust in the brake system. Depending on your car and how often you use it, it's recommended that you change your brake fluid between one to three years. Another important fluid component that many car owners forget about is their car's power steering fluid levels. Power steering fluid is important in making your car steering run smoothly in all conditions. Of the main fluids discussed here, the power steering fluid is typically the fluid that can go the longest without needing to be changed. Some car manufacturers even claim that the power steering fluid will last the life of the vehicle. But if you think the steering wheel on your vehicle has become noticeably stiffer or more rigid recently, it's a good idea to ask your instant oil change service provider to check your power steering fluid levels.

Along with the power steering fluid, a car's transaxle fluid is another component that many car owners often forget about. That's probably because, like the power steering fluid, the transaxle fluid really only needs changing every once in awhile. Most car manufacturers recommend that it's changed somewhere around the 60,000 mile mark. Still, a car's transaxle fluid is vital to keeping everything running smoothly. Your instant oil change technician should be able to check this quickly. It takes a lot of checking to keep everything in your car running smoothly, but it's worth it. Knowing how long it's been since your last services will assure you that your car has a long and healthy lifespan. Your instant 10 minute oil change service professionals should be able to check all these car components, but knowing when it's time for an oil filter change or an air filter change will help your instant oil change technicians serve you best.
