Patio Tables: Why You Can't Live Without Them

David Faulkner

There are many patios all over the country that don't have roofs, walls, or umbrellas. People can still have fun in their patios even if they decide not to install a patio fireplace or heater. Decorations, although they add to the beauty of the area, do not add to the functionality of a patio either. But a patio without a patio table? That's totally unheard of!

A patio table is the single most essential piece of furniture that every patio must have. When the weather is good, especially during the summer, people like taking their meals outside, and a patio table is definitely required for this. Patio tables may also be used for having some afternoon refreshments with a couple of neighbors. Some people can also play games on their patio tables - say, a few rounds of friendly bridge or poker.

Even if your patio is a tiny enclosed deck only large enough to accommodate your family, you still need to have a patio table where you can sit down and relax with your family or by yourself. Larger areas can have longer patio tables with more seating and wider umbrellas over them.

No matter how big or how large you want your patio table to be, you will be able to choose the best one for your patio from the myriad of designs available. Patio tables are also available in many different sizes, colors, and materials. There are patio tables made from wood, metal, stone, plastic, or even glass.

Most of these tables have matching chairs. You don't have to buy the chairs, though. Some people like using a mix of their old chairs around a patio table. This style is actually getting more popular today with the advent of shabby chic designs, where people incorporate new furniture with old refurbished ones.

When choosing a patio table, consider the design as much as functionality. It is good if you have an idea of what you need before heading to the furniture store, as you may become confused by the large number of available tables to choose from.

Patio tables commonly end up as focal points in people's patios, and you want your guests to be impressed by your style. Even if you are not serving food at the patio table, you have to be sure that it looks nice at all times. A vase of fresh flowers always works in livening up an empty table.
