Low Flow Showerheads, Water Conservation and You E.S. Cromwell Ah, yes. Showering. It's something that all of us do. And if you don't, well, that's simply intriguing -- and good for you. You've beat the system as you stand to the left of the hygienically-inclined and watch as they, smelling a distinct odor in the air, move further to the right. But, all joking a side -- noting that individuals who don't shower regularly are in fact great people, too - and considering how most every American citizen showers, one must take into mind the specific environmental significance involved here, being obviously enough, about human water use and consumption. The Trend of Showering and Water Wasting On this topic of water usage it's important to highlight typical showering trends. There is no arguing that showering itself is more than a means to get clean. It's also for many, a hobby, a simple pleasure. These showering hobbyists take the act of showering to long and thorough lengths, upwards to enjoying half hour long showers (or even longer) at a time. Yet, when these individuals shower this way water is wasted, and at a tremendous rate. Now, consider that a great deal of individuals shower this way on a daily basis, sometimes even twice a day. Just try to add up in your noggin the amount of gallons used with excessive showering in mind. Thinking just of the amount of water wasted through showering longer than is needed is perplexing -- and the figure itself is a staggering number, one you'd probably not even be able to guess. Water Conservation and You: Lessening Gallons Annual indoor water use -- from kitchen to bathroom activities -- is estimated at being in the range of trillions of gallons. Yet, narrowing down the specific bathroom activity of showering will reveal some startling numbers. Showering itself stands apart from all other indoor water use in that it represents a total of 17 percent of United States residential indoor water use. Taking such a percentage and converting it over to gallons reveals a whopping total of 1.2 trillion annually used gallons, just from showering. With such hefty gallon totals that are used (or, more poignantly, wasted) it would make sense for all American citizens to analyze just how they shower, especially how long they shower. Through this, you will hopefully realize that showering should really only take minutes, 5 at most. But, you should also become aware that saving water, simply through showering more quickly will save not only water but energy as well. Saving Water and Energy With Low Flow Showerheads Keeping in mind that water conservation is more important than ever is vital to maintaining the world's well being. A shortage of water, if it were to occur, would impact the human race indefinitely, not to mention the natural environment around us. Let's face it -- we rely on water as it is literally our lifeblood. It courses through our veins, makes us function well and allows us to continue to live. Hence, to keep living -and thriving- we need to save water. And one way to do this, while showering, is through using low flow showerheads in replacement of old heavy flow showerheads. The technology in low flow showerheads is a mixing of water with air, rather than releasing just water. And by adopting the offer of these showerheads you will be saving between 30-70 percent of water used per shower, depending how long you shower for -- this is a substantial conservation percentage. So, what does this mean for you? It reveals that you should shower smarter and quicker. Opt to shower with low flow showerheads and do your part to conserve water and save energy.
