Vegetable garden for beginners Cheryl Hanlon Learning how to have a great vegetable garden may be something that you are interested in. However the one thing that you need to remember is that it is going to take a lot of hard work and be something that consumes your time and energy. You want to plant vegetables that you enjoy eating. This will make you want to spend time in your garden. There are a few vegetables that cannot be planted next to one another because they will not survive the stress. Potatoes should not be planted near tomatoes or squash. They will take away from each other's nutrients. You can plant anything that you want but you have to be sure that you are fulfilling their needs and giving them the proper place to grow. You have to make enough room for each of the plants so that they can survive in their growing space. When you are a beginner at growing a vegetable garden you should start off small. You want to only plant a few plants so that you are not overwhelming yourself from the start. You should only plant what you can handle and as you get better at gardening you can add more and more plants each year. Having a vegetable garden is a lot of responsibility. You are going to have to spend many hours in your garden and put in a lot of work. You need to keep the garden weeded and watered. Vegetables take a lot of water and you have to put yourself on a good watering schedule. You should only water your plants at the base because if you get the leaves wet, you may find that they end up rotting. Rotating your plants from year to year is a good idea too. You do not want to plant the same plants in the same spots year after year. Rotating them will help to prevent the soil from becoming diseased. You want to keep the soil healthy so that your plants can grow and be healthy as well. Starting out with your very own vegetable garden can be a lot of work but with some extra effort and some money you can have your very own home grown vegetables to use in your recipes.
