Looking For A Satisfactory Water Purification System?

Laurel Tevolitz

A customer would not walk into a furniture store and ask to look at a bed, without telling the store employee what sort of bed that he or she needed. The person who has decided to gather information on water purification systems should not study the vast amount of online information without knowing what substances need to be removed from whatever water will pass through the anticipated system.

The online information about water systems includes facts related to each of the three different systems. A water purification system can remove unwanted contaminants from water in three distinctly different locations:

1) Residence

2) Commercial establishment

3) Laboratory

At each of those three sites, water coming from a purifying system will not be considered "pure" until it has lost any element that could either harm people at that location or interfere with some ongoing operation at that location.

Suppose, for example, that a research and development lab at a biotechnology company has decided to culture and study samples of tissue from patients who have had bladder cancer. That lab should have a water purification system that can remove chlorine from the water. The presence of chorine city in water has been linked to a rise in bladder cancer among city residents.

Water has the ability to dissolve a multitude of substances. That is a recognized characteristic of water. Yet anyone looking for a way to obtain pure water should also know that any characteristic of water can change as the water undergoes a change in temperature, pressure or flow rate.

Water does not always boil at the same temperature. At higher elevations, water boils at a lower temperature. That fact once forced a scientist in a laboratory at the Los Alamos Laboratories to re-think the approach that he wanted to take for performance of a specific chromosomal test.

A resident of Los Alamos, New Mexico would have good reason to think about getting a system for his or her home. Chemicals used in the laboratories could leak into the city water system. In the absence of purification systems, a high level of certain contaminants could well lead to a rise in birth defects among the residents of Los Alamos.

A number of jobs take for granted the purity of water coming from a purification system. Mining engineers, horticulturalists, experts in hydroponics, breeders, soldiers and appliance makers all count on the functionality of a reliable system. In addition, some hobbyists spend their free time reaping the benefits of them.

Moreover, all of those who enjoy spending time outdoors can derive added assurance from the presence of water purification. Such a system can give hikers and campers the same clean, pure and good tasting water that comes from the tap in a home with the same type of process. A combination of activated carbon with ion exchange and micron filtration produces the safest water.

Those who enjoy outdoor recreation often choose to get a point of use water purification system. Then they do not have to worry about the possibility that lead, PCBs, arsenic or chorine has become dissolved in the outdoor water supply.

Meanwhile, any homeowner who wants to purchase one of the systems should request a copy of the city's annual water report. A homeowner who relies on well water needs to study the results of a well water test. Once a homeowner knows what is in the tap water, then he or she can buy a suitable water purification system.
