Leading Indicators? Source: The Conference Board. The Leading Indicators report is mostly a compendium of previously announced economic market processors: new orders, jobless claims, money supply, average workweek, building permits, and stock prices. This report is extremely predictable and of very little interest to the marketing world. Though this series does have a few predictive qualities, it is commonly criticized in that it has doomsayer "nine of the last six" recessions. The Commerce Department recently privatized the leading
measurement series. The collection and publishing of this data is now
produced by the non-profit Conference Board, which also publishes the
consumer confidence index.
