What you don't know about car insurance
Thinking of switching car insurance companies? Did you know that when you get car insurance you are not actually stuck with that company forever? You can cancel your car insurance policy whenever you want to and switch to another more affordable company or one that just has better coverage. As long a you let the insurance company know in advance you can probably get away without even having to pay any fees and without having your credit report take a hit. Never assume that your insurance will be canceled when the term is up because the vast majority of companies do not work that way at all. They will simply rebill you for the next term automatically. Then if you do not pay you are looking at an ugly credit report. When you have decided to make the move away from your car insurance company you need to let them know right away. Write them a letter explaining the situation and the date you would like to see your car insurance canceled. Never neglect to let your insurer know formally of your intentions, this can save you a lot of money in penalties and fees. You want to make sure that your record as far as your car insurance is pristine. Remember that other insurance companies can find out these types of things and if they feel you have treated a different company poorly then they are going to be less likely to take you on themselves and if they do take you on it is going to be for a much higher premium rate. Save some money and do things the right way, write the letter. You should also give them a call. The phone call should come first and they may even send you a cancellation form. Look this over and make sure to read all the fine print and then sign in and send it back in as soon as possible. Whatever you do make sure that you are
always covered by car insurance. Too many people start driving before
their new policy is actually covering them. Know your dates and make sure
that you work within them at all times. The best idea is to contact your
new car insurance agency well before you need your policy to start. This
will allow you to set things up so that as soon as your old car insurance
terminates your new policy will kick
in. |
